Local authorities email template

Dear [Local authority contact],

I am emailing in relation to the Department for Education’s free period products scheme, which is available for all state-maintained schools and colleges in England.

The scheme launched in January 2020 and has been running during the U.K. lockdowns, but over 50% of institutions still haven't signed up. This is particularly concerning in light of COVID-19, with 30% of girls reported to have been struggling to access the period products they needed during the first nationwide lockdown last year.

I am working with the not-for-profit organisations Free Periods and the Red Box Project on their #PeriodRevolution campaign to raise awareness of the scheme.

I’d like to ask you to support this campaign by:

  1. Emailing all state-maintained schools and colleges in your area with details of the scheme (precedent email here)

  2. Sharing the attached flyer on social media to show your support for the scheme and for the #PeriodRevolution campaign (precedent Tweet below):

“Nobody should miss out on school simply because of their period

That’s why I’m joining @free_periods & @redboxproject to encourage sign ups to the Govt’s FREE period product scheme!

    More info freeperiods.org”

  3. Finally, following Free Periods on Twitter at @free_periods or on Instagram at @freeperiods and sharing your own experiences and efforts in joining the ‘Period Revolution’.

The free period products scheme is such a valuable opportunity to address the issue of period poverty and wider problems of inequality - to show girls and other students who menstruate that they matter and that their needs will be met.

Many thanks for your support with this important campaign.

With kind regards,
